Leaders For Tomorrow Mentorship Program Partners With State Rep. Al Riley
Rep. Al Riley (D-Olympia Fields) 38th District Illinois State Representative addressed participants in the Leaders For Tomorrow Program (the “LFT Program”) on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Prairie State College (“PSC”). The LFT Program is conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (the “Fraternity”), Theta Mu Lambda Chapter and is designed to support the fraternity’s national program “Go to High School, Go to College”, for youths ages 12 – 18 years.
Rep. Riley, an avid history enthusiast, conducted an interactive conversation with the young men about his father’s role in the Civil Rights Movement, his meeting with the Rev., Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the importance of completing their formal education, employment opportunities and the impact of the state’s budget impasse. He contributes to an annual college scholarship, named in his honor, issued by the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation, Inc.
Rep. Riley is a member of the Fraternity and a staunch supporter of the LFT Program that provides math and reading tutorials to help improve the participants ACT/SAT test taking skills and study habits. PSC, the LFT Program’s partner, provides a tour of its campus and information regarding its “Protégé” and “Pipeline to College” Programs. Participants attend interactive workshops, at PSC that include: Public Speaking, Political Awareness, Business Acumen, Personal Finance, An Appropriate Response To Law Enforcement, Etiquette, and STEM. They also take part in the March of Dimes “Walk for Babies”, an entrepreneurial related exercise and an awards banquet at the Glenwoodie Country Club, Glenwood, Illinois.
