Leaders For Tomorrow Orientation
Student/Parent orientation for our Leaders For Tomorrow mentoring program.
The Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation, Leaders For Tomorrow Program (the “Program”) is operated by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc Theta Mu Lambda Chapter and funded in part by Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation. The Program is designed to support the fraternity’s national program “Go to High School, Go to College” for male ages 12 -18 years.
The Program provides math and reading enrichment to help improve student’s ACT/SAT test taking skills and study habits. The math instruction is provided by math teachers and engineers. The reading instruction is provided by educators and business professionals. The reading instruction explores a series of essays and excerpts from various texts and news articles that may examine specific issues of African American culture and life. Past texts have included, “Letters to a Young Brother” by Hill Harper, “The Black Male Handbook” by Kevin Powell and “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” co-authored with Alex Haley.
Program participants will have the opportunities to participate in workshops that include: Public Speaking, Political Awareness, Business Acumen, Personal Finance, Law Enforcement, and STEM.
The Program plans to tour area Universities or Colleges and meet with representatives regarding college opportunities. Prairie State College provides a tour of its campus and information regarding the “Protégé” and “Pipeline to College” Programs. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in the March of Dimes Walk for Babies, and a business exercise.
